Nexium Evaluations

Nexium Evaluations The evaluation of Nexium was conducted by scientist whom were funded by AstraZeneca LP, the company who also makes the Nexium drug. This is most likely why 40 and 20 grams of Nexium were compared with 20 grams of Omeprazole. The problem is that this is the recommended amount of Omeprazole and because Nexium contains twice as much of the effective molecule, it is unfair to compare it to either half or the same amount of Omeprazole. Because of this, AstraZeneca was sued for "misleading marketing" (case was brought up, it did not get to the suing stage, I think -ADK) as it added billions to health-care costs (of insurance companies - ADK). The difference between the two drugs, Omeprazole and Nexium was not effectiveness but advertising. The judge threw out the case because he said that the U.S. FDA was responsible for "weighing the differences between drugs" and because the FDA had cleared Nexium's label, the lawsuit was not valid.

I always get confused by the sentence "FDA had cleared the Nexium's lable". Do this means that it is proved or not? Ge last modified by Ge Yang (gy35) on Dec 6, 2006 11:56:17 PM FDA approved the drug; the drug is effective and sasfe according to the FDA. Question is, why in the world does the FDA, with government funding and smart scientists working for it, fail to realize this clearly fallacious logic that students in an intro orgo class realize. Why don't they just run their own tests that don't rely on outside funding? -ADK
